Fantastic bargain break! Feb 25, 2009
We have just returned from a lovely 5 week bargain break at the Metropole. Unlike RHODEY Notts we had a wonderful holiday and will probably be back. Our room was not dark and dismal and although the furniture was old, everything worked. Anything in the room which was broken or unsatisfactory was replaced or mended on the same day. Yes, there were dinner queues but only rarely (twice in 5 weeks) and extra staff were brought in. The restaurant staff were lovely and always ready to help. There were plenty of chairs! ... and there certainly was no need for anyone to eat standing up. What we must bear in mind here is that in January and February, the prices were unbelievably low yet a few people seemed to expect 4/5 star service. Jill & Laurie
Enjoyed my stay in this BUDGET HOTEL.(good value on a package tour)" Nov 2008
Spent 28 days at this 3 star hotel.
Before arrival I was slightly worried by the polarised reviews of this hotel on this TripAdvisor hotel review service.
When I arrived I was allocated room 226 which at first sight seemed very basic and bare. It is at rear of hotel with overlooking walls so you do need the lighting on most of the time when in the room. After I slept overnight, I then started to appreciate quietness of room and its cleanliness and that of its ensuite shower room.
I noticed the dressing table light was not working - no problem to me - however maintenance man knocked door to gain access to fix it 1st morning without me raising issue, so although not fixed before arrival was fixed without prompting, he also replaced another lightbulb elsewhere in room at same time at my prompting.
At the tour operator's welcome meeting the hotel owner and his duty manager attended along with tour operator's rep and the owner emphasised "if you have a problem raise it with the staff, who will try to solve it immediately". This seems to happen in action as on day 3, my room's TV needed re-tuning to maximise signal on one of the satellite channels - this was done by another handyman within 10 minutes of me raising issue at hotel reception. This seems typical of hotel's response to any problems raised, all staff encountered are very helpful and are happy to meet all reasonable requests to improve the guest's enjoyment of his/her stay.
During Winter, most of hotel's clientele are retired UK citizens and are on long stays ( 28 day stays are typical ) and so various evening entertainments are laid on by hotel e.g. Germany/England football game on large screen satellite TV in bar area whilst at same time "Meet the Fockers" DVD was being screened in the residents lounge on the 1st floor, last night it was bingo in bar with another DVD in the residents lounge ............Maltese buffet meal and entertainment scheduled for Fridays in addition to normal restaurant service. So plenty of entertainment is being laid on if you want it.
Restaurant is not brightly lit and as meals are buffet service it does seem to pay to be early rather than late to ensure you have full choice of dishes. Usually choice of soup/pasta/salad to start and a choice of 3 hot main dishes ( fish/meat/pasta being typical choices ), sweet is gateau/cold pudding/fruit.
English style cooked breakfast is 3 euros extra if you don't opt for Continental breakfast which consists of cereal/fruit/yogurt/porridge(microwaved to order). If you are on H/B and have to miss your evening meal as long as the reception has prior notification they will give you a voucher for a 2 course meal + fruit at lunchtime in the hotel bar ......... again an example of trying to please the guest that perhaps another hotel might not bother to think about.
Generally I was very pleased AND RELIEVED in the context of previous reviews for this hotel.
Basic hotel which is clean, and has friendly staff whose main concern is for the client's happy stay at hotel.
I mostly lLiked the wonderful value for a cheap package tour and staff's positive attitude to guest's enjoyment.
THANK YOU!! (May 21st to 29th)
This is just to say a big thank you for the warm welcome shown to us during our stay at your hotel (May 21st to 29th). Your staff were amazing and we also enjoyed your buffet dinners. The reception and restaurant staff always went out of their way to help, and our room was always nicely tidied on a daily basis. Really, the Metropole was like a home away from home.Special greetings to Ritanne, Charlot and Ramon.God bless each of you and also your hotel.

Hi to Everyone at the Metropole.
Can I please express my sincere thanks for making us welcome during our visit
to your hotel on April 19th-May 3rd 2008. I enjoyed our visit very much and
really would consinder staying with you again. You have a great basic
foundation which yes seems to have a few little problems, but your willingness
to help and fantastic attitude to customer service throughout the hotel more
than makes up for these and makes me confident that you will resolve these
problems as best as you can.
Once Again, Thank you very much and I wish you all the best.

Just came back and I was afraid after reading all comments. I think they took some action. My sheets were looking like new and room was spotless clean. They painted restaurant and extremely pleasant staff...they must read your comments :)
For me it was comfy stay, good value deal!

We will hereby send a greeting to you with a great appreciation of your professional, wonderful and cheerful service during our stay in your cozy Hotel. We stayed from November 14 - 18. This was our first visit to Malta. We could not believe that the island of Malta have so much to offer a visitor. Nice weather and interesting buildings from your great history. Good and tasty food! The tremendous walks along the coast line of Sliema. The travels to Valletta and Medina. Also a thrilling swim at the Blue Grotto Area. All the friendly people. Easy to communicate with. Our trip was only just too short. Memories last for a long period of time. Hundreds of photos helps to shine in our cold and dark winter time! Life will never be the same again after our journey to Malta.
Our room the 310, was perfect for our needs. We hope to come back to you next Summer season. Like many of them British couples who stayed for 3 weeks. A special thank you to your staff at the Reception desk and to the professionals who served so well in the breakfast room. A special greeting to the Chef at the restaurant 'Le Soleil' for an outstanding dinner on the November 17th.
Best wishes for a merry Xmas and a happy new year!

What did you like: I liked the
helpful staff and the bar downstairs (that was the only
place I've been able to find spiced rum in all of Italy and
Malta combined :)), but the internet wasn't working when I
was there, which for me was quite annoying.

Metropole
Hotel visitor - March 30 2007
I would
like to put on record that the staff of the Metropole Hotel,
Malta, arranged a party for my birthday last night. It was a
surprise to me and together with the production of a card
and birthday cake, it made this one of my most memorable
birthdays.
My husband
and I are here for a month, two of which have gone by. We
have found the staff of the entire hotel extremely helpful
and courteous. Nothing is too much trouble for them, even at
their most busy moments.
Along with
three other couples who share the same view points, we are
very much impressed with the quality of this three star
hotel, which despite it looking a little tired in the
surrounding decor, which we understand is in the process of
refurbishment, we most certainly will return for future
holidays.
We convey
our most heartfelt thanks to the management and staff for
making this holiday such a success.

Having
booked for the Plevna I was disappointed at just to be
moved. But after settling in, I was happy to stay here for
the whole 4 weeks. I have had brilliant time, the staff are
so friendly and helpful you feel like a family. I would
definitely stay at tithe Metropole again as it feels like
home. The only suggestion I would make is that the TV room
was available more, maybe films 2 or 3 times per week.
Saturday nights are very good both meal and entertainment.
Thanks for
a great holiday and you will definitely see me again.

I would
like to thank the staff of this hotel for the care they have
given me during my unfortunate accident. I am really
grateful to everyone.

We have just come back from a fourth
night holiday stay in Malta. We stayed at the Metropole
Hotel in Sliema, Malta. The staff was very friendly,
especially the reception staff which were all very helpful.
The food was very good and a quite good variety was
presented every night. Although the rooms were quite simple,
the cleanliness was impeccable. The cleaning staff did an
amazing job and they are also ready to help you with
anything you need. We also enjoyed snacking on a light meal
in the bar at mid day, anything we asked for the chef made,
and was always served in a maximum time span of 15 to 30
minutes.
There was also daily entertainment in the bar, which wasn’t
bad at all.
The only draw back we found in this hotel was the fact that
the pool isn’t very big. I would recommend this Hotel for
people on a budget, it will be worth your money!

This is the
second time that I took a group of
people to Malta from Toronto where
we stayed at the Metropole Hotel in
Sliema at half board. None of the 50
people that I had with me complained
about anything. The staff were
excellent in helping at whatever we
needed and very pleasant. Breakfast
and dinner were very good and the
rooms were cleaned everyday.
The location of the hotel is
excellent where one can walk a few
yards to the boardwalk and enjoy the
waterfront scenery.
All in all very good hotel for the
money.

The Metropole
is located in a very good area,
right in the middle of Sliema &
Spinola Bay. The rooms are very
basic but we didn't spend much time
in them.
I would recommend this hotel for the
location & staff. The staff behind
the desk are very helpful with
places to see & directions on how to
get there.
If I was after a cheap holiday then
I would stay at the Metropole again

We where given much more than what
we had expected from this all
inclusive bargain price three star
hotel, and we will certainly return
for another very relaxing break in
the near future, (but would hope all
the bedrooms and bathrooms will have
been refurbished by then.) Clean
towels every day, very friendly
staff, (bar one) very good selection
of food every day, if you are not
satisfied with what is on, ask the
chef for something else, no bother.
Would like to see more comfortable
furniture in the bar area next time,
Forget the internet. A balcony is a
must. Ask for a room away from the
students. No we are not related,
just two very satisfied people. Doug

We just came back
from our stay at the Metropole, and
I must say what a fantastic holiday
it was!!
The Staff was incredible, all of
them were such nice people always
ready to help out. When we asked for
an upgrade the manager was
immediately there to help us, the
service in the restaurant was really
good too, so was the bar. I must say
that the only problem was that the
food lacked a bit, it seemed always
to be the same kind of food, but
it's very easy to find a restaurant
or bar which serves food since the
hotel is so close to the sea front
and centre.
We stayed in a front balcony room,
which was quite spacious, the rooms
were cleaned every morning whilst we
went down to have breakfast.
They are currently refurbishing most
of the hotel so we had to be moved
from our room to another room, but
that wasn't much of a problem for us
since they gave us a room exactly
like our previous one.
I must say that yes the Hotel
doesn't need refurbishment.
especially the common areas. But
otherwise we don't have much to
complain about.
I'd recommend this hotel to young
travellers and people on a budget.
Thank you to the Staff for making
our holiday such a nice stay!!

I have just
returned from Malta and stayed at
the Metropole in Sliema. An
excellent location 2 minutes walk
from the sea with the most friendly
and helpful staff you could hope to
find. The pool on the roof was very
peaceful with great snacks served
for lunch, my room was comfortable
with a balcony, it was not super
luxurious but very comfortable and
clean, the Metropole comes highly
recommended.
